Marjorie Joan Carney
ANDOVER – Marjorie Joan Carney at her residence in Andover.Born in Portland, on Dec. 21, 1941 she was a daughter of Ralph and Marjorie (Simmons) Stinson. Joan was a graduate of Andover High School and attended Bates College in Farmington. She was a long-time resident of Somerville, Massachusetts. Joan worked for ten years at St. Paul’s Church in Harvard Square, Cambridge, Ma. And later for the Somerville Home caring for the elderly. Joan returned to Andover in 1999 to care for her parents while also working for the post office in Rumford Point. Joan wrote a witty column for the Bethel Citizen and worked for the Andover Town hall as a Selectwoman. She was an avid consumer of books and supported the Andover Town Library. She was married to the late John B. Carney. She is survived by her sons, John Brian Carney and wife Nina Iskandar of Orlando, FL and Thomas Mathew Carney and wife Susan of Philadelphia; sisters Jeannie Schafer and husband Robert of Michigan and Donna Gagne and husband David of East Stoneham, ME; brothers Ralph Stinson, and wife Robyn of Oxford, Lawrence Stinson of Seattle and Alan Stinson and wife Kimberly of Georgia, grandchildren, Margaret Joan Carney, Josephine Anne Carney and John Theodore Carney of Florida.
