FAIRFIELD — Chandler Briggs knocked down four 3-pointers and collected the game-high 27 points as Mt. Blue (2-4) shook off Lawrence (2-3) with a 65-56 victory in a boys Class A basketball game on Thursday night.

The Cougars got down to business and built a sturdy 33-19 lead by halftime. Evans Sterling also helped Mt. Blue’s cause with 14 points.

Conner Nutting scored the team-high 20 points for Lawrence and teammate Andrew Trombley had 11.

GIRLS BASKETBALL
EDWARD LITTLE 54, PORTLAND 34: Rachel Penny tossed in 13 points, including three 3-pointers, in the Red Eddies’ (1-5) victory over the Bulldogs (1-5) in Portland.

EL jumped out to a 26-17 at halftime and never looked back for its first win of the season. Portland’s Liz Yugu scored the game-high 14 points.

MOUNTAIN VALLEY 58, TELSTAR 26: Brooke Brown and Autumn Freeman scored 14 and 13 points, respectively, leading the Falcons (2-1) past the Rebels (0-3) in Rumford.

The Falcons hopped out to a 25-10 lead by halftime. Morgan Zetts scored the game-high 16 points for Telstar.

LAWRENCE 47, MT. BLUE 43, 2OT: Ali Higgins scored a game-high 18 points to pace the Bulldogs to a double-overtime victory over the Cougars in Farmington.

Eva Stevens led Mt. Blue with 13 points and Hannah Wilbur and KK Daggett added 11 apiece.

BOYS HOCKEY
MT. ARARAT/LISBON/MORSE 4, PORTLAND/DEERING 3: Gerek Potvin had a goal and an assist to lead four different scorers for the Eagles (4-2) as they broke out to a 3-0 lead after one period and held off a late charge to defeat the Bulldogs (0-4) at Troubh Ice Arena in Portland.

Cayden Green, Dylan Richards and Bryce Poulin all added goal for Mt. Ararat/Lisbon/Morse with assists coming from Jacob Fullerton, Alex Witwicki and Johnny Hole. Sean Moore made 29 saves in goal.

Andrew Legere had a pair of goals and Hunter Temple also scored for Portland/Deering which rallied with a pair of power-play goals in the third period. Ryan Becket also stopped 29 shots in net for the Bulldogs.

WOMEN’s BASKETBALL
SUSQUEHANNA 72, BATES 67: The River Hawks (8-2) took the lead for good on an Amalia Esposito layup with 8:01 to play and closed on a 23-13 run to beat the Bobcats (7-2) in the WPI Holiday Tournament in Worcester, Massachusetts.

Olivia Brandt had 16 points to lead five players in double figures for Susquehanna.

Meghan Graff had 22 points to pace Bates, Morgan Kennedy had 16 and Mia Roy 10.
