Brooks Brothers had a raffle recently to benefit Nina Wheeler’s Christmas for Kids. This was their second raffle and it was well-received by the community. This year’s winner was Betsey Blaisdell from Portsmouth, New Hampshire. The crew at Brooks Brothers is a fun bunch and always friendly. Small local businesses are doing great things for our community.
Musa Brown and I have sent a letter to the editor in regard to the Methodist Church’s 16th annual Memorial/Honor tree. Over 40 people took part in supporting this church fundraiser. Folks from Maine, Massachusetts, Florida, Arizona, Georgia, Florida, Indiana, and Rhode Island sent in names of folks to be remembered and/or honored. We have a reading of the names and there are so many memories that come to mind. Memories can be overwhelming but sweet at the same time. It is always an honor to remember and recognize the many names listed in that letter. The support of our church is always appreciated.
This is the Dec. 30 edition of the Bethel Citizen. Vacation week is coming to an end. Many visitors have come and gone. We will once again be a small Maine town. Yeah!
Christmas was fun spending time with family and friends. The grandchildren are especially cute. The highlight of my Christmas was my 69-year-old brother, Ed Fontaine, getting engaged to Debbie Shields. Everyone is overjoyed. It goes to say that you are never too old to find love.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
