AUBURN — A garage and its contents were destroyed by fire Thursday morning, but firefighters were able to keep flames from spreading to the attached home at 92 Whitney St.

There were no injuries reported to the resident, who was there at the time, or to firefighters, Fire Chief Robert Chase said.

Fire personnel were dispatched at 7:21 a.m. and the first unit on scene reported heavy fire and smoke, which was starting to extend into the breezeway connected to the house, the chief said.

A second alarm brought Lewiston firefighters and shortly after, Auburn units got into the breezeway and stopped flames from getting into the house, Chase said.

The fire was under control by 9:15 a.m.

“There was minimal damage to the home and it should be able to remain occupied by the single resident of the home,” he said. “The occupant was home at the time the fire was reported and was uninjured.”

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
