Sandra F. Kennedy
NORWAY – Sandra F. Kennedy, 85, of Norway, Maine passed away on December 19, 2021 with end stage COPD, in her home, her two children with her. She was born in Lewiston, Maine at CMMC on January 30, 1936. She is the daughter of Roy and Wenona (Flanders) Fletcher of Norway, Maine where she and her sister Shirley F. Masseron were raised on Main St. Norway above “Fletchers Candy Store”, started by her grandparents “Bella and John Fletcher”. Sandra graduated from Norway High School then went on to receive her associates in Science degree from University of Bridgeport, school of Dental Hygiene in 1956. She met her future husband, Jeremiah Kennedy of Augusta, Maine while ride sharing home for the holidays. They were married at the Universalist Church in Norway, Maine in June 1957, and shared numerous adventures together until his passing in 2014. Their 57 year marriage was filled with adventures including numerous boat trips from Shelburne, Vermont where they family boated to Nantucket, and numerous islands past the 12 locks from Lake Champlain through to the Hudson River and along the eastern seaboard. They also adventured with the family up through the St. Lawrence Seaway, to the Thousand Islands, Ottawa, and returned home having logged 87 locks that summer. Then came the cross country camping trips, packing the station wagon, camper, two kids and the dog for six weeks of national parks, visiting friends and seeing this vast nation. During her years as a Dental Hygienist, Sandra worked in private practice in Burlington and also set up shop at Shelburne Middle School where she cleaned all the school children’s teeth. In 1983 she and Jere moved from Shelburne, Vermont to Manassas, Virginia due to a transfer. She landed a position at the Naval Annex in Bethesda where she worked as a hygienist for 6 years and was awarded many Superior Achievement awards for outstanding service. When Sandra left that position as a civilian she was awarded a letter of commendation and honorable discharge from the Navy in 1987.Jere and Sandy retired and sailed away adventuring up the Maine Coast, then to the West Coast of Florida where they resided for seven years before moving to The Villages, Florida, where they enjoyed many years of golf and sunshine and wonderful friendships.Her home and heart was always in Norway, Maine, at the property her family purchased in the 1940’s on the shores of Lake Pennesseewassee or better known, Norway Lake. She and Jere summered there for many years and enjoyed the beautiful waterfront scenery along with childhood friends and family memories.She is survived by her son Jeremiah S. Kennedy and his wife Heidi of Bristol, Vermont. Her daughter Jennifer K. Zanca and significant other David A. Bell of Auburn, Maine. Grandchildren Jonathan Kennedy and his wife Anna Mumford, and great grandchild, Maeve (7-months) of Vergennes, Vermont. Benjamin Kennedy of Bristol, Vermont, Mariah Zanca and her significant other Stephen Najemy of Lyman, Maine and Jamey E. Zanca currently attending UNE, Biddeford, Maine. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her sister Shirley (Fletcher) Masseron and her husband Eugene Masseron. Graveside services will be held in June at Lakeview Cemetery in Norway where she will be joining her late husband, Jeremiah Kennedy. A memorial and celebration of life will be immediately following, date and time to be announced.
