Oayma “Buddy” J. Colby Jr.

NORWAY – Oayma “Buddy” J. Colby Jr., 87, of South Paris passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2021 at Stephens Memorial Hospital with his loving family by his side. He was born in South Paris on June 17, 1934 the son of Oayma J. Colby, Sr. and Sylvia Morrisette Colby. He graduated from Paris High School in 1952 and he faithfully served our country in the U.S. Army, stationed in Augsburg Germany where he was part of the Military Police. He married Joyce Anne Rolfe on December 29, 1956 and they were happily married for 65 years.

Buddy was the owner/operator of Colby’s Garage in South Paris for more than 60 years. He was an exceptional welder and did work throughout the Oxford Hills. He always enjoyed working on cars, tractors and small engines. In his earlier years he enjoyed water skiing, snow skiing, going to camp, smelting and snowmobiling. Most recently he most enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his loving wife Joyce as they took long rides throughout Maine and New Hampshire.

Buddy is survived by his wife Joyce of South Paris; three daughters Debra Martin and husband Kevin of South Paris, Daphne Chaplin and husband Dana of Harrison and Diana McLaughlin and husband William of South Paris; 6 grandchildren Deanna Bisbee, Joshua Chaplin and wife Chelsey, Michele Bisbee, Amanda Tardiff and husband Jeremy, Dyllon McLaughlin and wife Candice and Garrett McLaughlin; eight great grandchildren; a brother Alden Colby of Penobscot; a brother-in-law Rodney Rolfe of Norway; and a special dog, Hope. He was predeceased by his parents; brother Peter Colby; and sister MaryAnn Colby.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, Jan. 15, 2022 at 11 a.m. at Chandler Funeral Homes & Cremation Service, 45 Main St., South Paris. Interment with military honors will be held in the spring at Riverside Annex Cemetery in South Paris.
