The Auburn Public Library plans the following programs as part of its annual health and wellness series, New Year, New You.

The in-person events will be held at the 49 Spring St. library.

• Healthy Eating will be presented by Healthy Androscoggin from 2:30 to 4 p.m. Tuesdays, Jan. 11 and 25.

This free, two-class series offers gain tools, information and recipes to help people sharpen food preparation skills. These classes cover topics to help people shop, cook, and eat healthier foods while staying within their food budget. Participants receive a cookbook with 24 healthy, low-cost recipes and nutrition tips. Each session will include either a food demonstration, prep, or take-home option.

To get the most out of this program, participants should attend both classes.

Becca Schoen, SNAP-Ed nutrition educator from Healthy Androscoggin, will lead the series. Her passion is growing food, watching the process of seed to plant, and then transforming it into delicious dishes in the kitchen.

• Stand Up Straight: Tips on Posture, presented by Head to Toe Physical Therapy is set for 4-5 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 12.

Participants can learn about “neutral spine,” proper posture, and ways to stand up straighter.

• Meditation is a Mindset, presented by Mellow Mainer Meditation, Thursday, Jan. 13, 4:30-5:30 p.m.

In this meditation session, instructor Martin Gagnon shares his journey to cultivating a meditation mindset that keeps his focus on the present moment, reducing stress and anxiety. A regular practitioner, Gagnon overcame severe bouts of anxiety fueled by a racing mind and wants to help others adopt a meditation mindset.

Gagnon is a meditation and mindfulness instructor who founded Mellow Mainer Meditation because the discipline of meditation has had such a tremendous impact on him.

• Hearing Nature’s Lessons has been planned for 4:30-5:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 27.

Using a mindfulness-based approach, this class will examine how the physical traits, behaviors, and characteristics of animals can serve as lessons of wisdom for humans, while instilling a greater appreciation for natural teachers.

Masks are required inside of the library. Because of space limitations, registration is required.
