NORWAY — The Second Congregational Church, UCC, on Main Street experienced a flood across a large section of the basement when the water heater let go.

Damage was done to the old tile floor in the kitchen, dining room and ell, a classroom, the thrift shop, and in storage space.  Because the old tiles were made with asbestos, removing and replacing them will require time and special handling before new flooring can be installed.

The church is in the process of preparing for the floor work to be done and will need to utilize space throughout the  church to store basement items. The Oxford Hills community has been great in supporting the church, thrift shop and yard sale with many donations, so the  barn and basement are full and the church will continue to have people drop off items for future sales.

But, for now, donations are not being accepted. For the next few months, until the flooring project is completed, the church will need to move “stuff” and utilize upstairs space for storage.

An announcement will be made when sales are starting again and the church has room for donated items.

For questions about the flooring project, contact the church office at 207-743-2290.

Monetary donations for the flooring project may be sent to the Second Congregational Church, P.O. Box 164, Norway, Maine 04268.  Please write in the memo line: flooring.
