Michael P. “Mickey” Saltis

LEWISTON – It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Michael aka “Pappy”, 77. He passed away Jan. 14, 2022 at the Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston. He was born Feb. 28, 1944 in Lewiston, the son of George and Catherine “Millie” (Hennessey) Saltis.

Michael was a 1963 graduate of Lewiston High School. After graduation he served in the US Navy where he was stationed in Newport, R.I. from 1963 – 1967. Upon leaving the Navy he was employed at General Electric where he worked until his retirement in 2004.

He married Doris (Toussaint) White on May 16, 2000. They have enjoyed and cherished each other for more than 20 years.

He was an avid hockey fan. During his youth he cheered on his brother-in-law Ronald St. Onge and later his nephews. He was a constant fixture at many rinks around New England while cheering on his son Michael and most recently his grandsons. He was willing to talk hockey with anyone and bonded with many. He has travelled all over the country to watch The Frozen Four College Hockey Tournament. He had a fondness for live music and travel. When his children were young he took them to numerous rock concerts, plays and sporting events.

Most importantly he loved his family.

He is survived by his wife Doris Saltis; two children Michael and his wife Angela Saltis, Lisa Saltis and her companion Stephan Branche; five grandchildren Aaron Crenshaw, Victoria Crenshaw, Alasia Branche, Evan Saltis, and Camden Saltis. He extended his love of family to his stepchildren as well, Sandi Tibey and husband Mark along with Steve White, five more grandchildren, Aimee Erby and great-granddaughter Adrienne; Ashley and Dominic Salazar; Phillip Tibey; Joshua White and great-grandchildren Elijah and Ellena; Zachary White and great-granddaughter Hazel-Rin; a sister Colleen “Daisy” St. Onge; a brother George “Zoie” Saltis; many beloved nieces and nephews.

Michael was predeceased by his mother and father; a sister Alyce Cote; a niece Catherine Murphy and a nephew John St. Onge.

Visitation will be held 10-12 Saturday, Jan. 22 with a service following 12 noon at The Fortin Group, 217 Turner Street, Auburn.
