Gail

Gail is a one-year-old beauty who has been through a lot in her young life. She was living as a stray when she was brought to Responsible Pet Care in late June. She was quite wild and didn’t want anything to do with people. She was also pregnant when she arrived at the shelter. She gave birth to six kittens and went to a foster home with her kittens when they were a few weeks old. Her foster home helped with socialization and she learned that people are a good thing.

Back at the shelter in November, all her kittens found homes. Gail became quite shy again when she first came back to the shelter, but is now a sweet girl who likes slow and gentle attention. Gail is also heartworm positive. Just like with dogs, it is spread through the bite of an infected mosquito. Unlike dogs, there is no treatment for heartworm in cats.

Being heartworm positive doesn’t affect her activity or personality, and heartworm is not contagious. However, there’s a good chance her lifespan will be shorter than a ‘normal’ cat. Gail will need to be an indoor cat only, but she’s okay with that. She loves a good, comfy spot and some gentle attention. If you can open your heart and home to Gail, fill out our application at www.responsiblepetcare.org or call the shelter at 743-8679.
