Guilda Louise Thibault Desjardins

LEWISTON – Guilda Louise Thibault Desjardins 93, of Hillview Lane, Lewiston passed away peacefully at her home on Jan. 17, 2022 following a brief illness, with her children by her side. Guilda was blessed to have had her youngest and devoted daughter, Denise J. Desjardins, as her life-long companion, live-in best-friend and personal caregiver throughout her life.

Born and raised in New Auburn, Maine, on Oct. 3, 1928, Mrs. Desjardins attended local schools and graduated from Edward Little High School in 1947. As a young girl she was always involved in many of her family’s businesses. As the co-owner and operator with her sister, Lorraine Thibault, of “Lorraine and Guilda”, a fine eatery and popular diner located on South Main Street in New Auburn, Guilda’s love of cooking, hosting guests and serving in her family’s entrepreneurial spirit brought many fond and cherished lifelong memories and stories that regaled us all throughout the years.

On Feb. 22, 1954, she married her lifelong love and husband Roland A. Desjardins. Together they raised their three children and made their home on Hillview Lane in Lewiston. Guilda continued to pursue her love of cooking for family and extended friends at many holiday gatherings, special celebrations and day-to-day “feasts”. She was a devout Catholic and member of Holy Family Church where she enjoyed many years singing in the choir at masses, funerals and other special events. With her husband Roland, they cherished the many years spent camping throughout the United States and especially their times on Prince Edward Island Canada.

Guilda is survived by her three children, Louise Y. Cote and her husband Paul, Denise J. Desjardins and Roger E. Desjardins. She was predeceased by her parents Eugene and Yvonne (Sirois) Thibault; husband, Roland A. Desjardins; son-in-law, Paul O’Clair; and her life-long friend, Margaret Blanchard Berry.

The family wishes to thank Dr. and Mrs. Barbara Kappelman and their staff, friend Chyann as well as Jenna, Beth, Annemarie and all Kindred Care Hospice Staff who supported us in making mom comfortable in her last days.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 25, at Holy Family Church. Interment, St. Peter’s Cemetery. Visitation will be private.
