100 Years Ago: 1922

About 30 couples attended the Y.P.C.U. dance at Mrs. Heth’s Academy Friday evening. Hobbs Orchestra furnished music and ices were served by the committee during the evening. The hall was prettily decorated in blue and white, the Y.P.C.U. colors. Mrs. W. A. Kelley, Miss Gladys Fogg, Ralph Fogg, Miss Adaline McLaughlin, and Miss Ellen Hall, a Bates student were on the committee

50 Years Ago: 1972

F. Oscar Whitmore, circulation manager of the Lewiston Sun-Journal, was elected secretary treasurer of the New England Association of Circulation Managers when that group met at the Sheraton Hotel earlier this week. The four-day annual sales conference included discussions on various circulation problems and new methods of circulation, several speakers, and the election of officers. Professor Mark Lipper of the Shippensburg State College in Pennsylvania spoke about the use of newspapers in the classroom, and Dwight E. Sargent, curator of the of the Neiman Fellowship at Harvard was also a featured speaker.

25 Years Ago: 1997

A Father-Daughter Valentine Ball will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Feb. 8 at the Ramada Inn in Lewiston with all proceeds to benefit The Public Theatre of Lewiston/Auburn. The ball is recommended for girls between the ages of 4 and 12. Music will be provided by Music Reflections, and party favors, cookies and punch will be served. Advance reservations are required. The planning committee is currently selling tickets and preparing for the event. The committee includes chairwoman Cathy Snook, Kathy Lawrence, Susan Brown, Linda Gretta, Jane Lafleur, Kay Little and Nancy McCann, Peggy Deblois and Jill Helmkamp.
