Robert Clayton Anderson

PORT ORANGE, Fla. – Robert Clayton Anderson, 77, passed away Jan. 19, 2022 in Port Orange, Fla.

Born in Lewiston on Sept. 28, 1944 to Clayton Arthur and Helen (DeCoster) Anderson, Bob was the second of four children. He graduated from Mechanic Falls High School in 1962. After high school, Bob enrolled in the United States Navy, serving on the USS Yellowstone and the USS Wasp. Bob was also a proud member of the American Legion Post 150 for over 50 years.

Known to many as Bob the Mailman, he joined the U.S. Postal Service and proudly served as letter carrier for the Mechanic Falls Post Office until his retirement in 1999. An avid outdoorsman, Bob loved to hunt and fish, snowmobile in the winter and boat in the summer. He had lots of stories and wonderful memories of trips with friends to the Allagash. Bob was loved by all who knew him and he will be remembered for his generosity, kindness, and humor. Above all he was an amazing husband, father and grandfather who leaves a legacy of love.

In 1989, Bob married Cindy. Together they loved to travel and spend time at their place on Pleasant Pond in Turner. For the last 20 years Bob and Cindy have spent their winters in New Smyrna Beach, Fla. where they have made many wonderful friends and memories. Bob loved the sunshine, warmth and being near the water.

Bob was predeceased by his mother, father; sister, Martha (Jordan); stepson, Michael Mannette; and nephew, Michael Anderson.

He is survived and greatly missed by his wife, Cindy; sister, Rachel Choate (Bruce), brother, Scott Anderson (Jubaidah); daughters Rebecca Anderson (Sam) and Catherine Ouellette (Darryl); as well as his stepson, Matthew Mannette (Amy); and four grandchildren, Katelynn Ouellette, Dr. Taylor Ouellette, Brielle Ouellette, and Ethan Mannette.

Bob’s family would like to thank his many friends and family for their notes of comfort and the Halifax Health Hospice Center for their incredible care in his final days.

A celebration of Bob’s life will be held in the summer in Maine.
