Roger Wayne Benson

WEST PARIS – Roger Wayne Benson, 76, of West Paris passed away Jan. 16, 2022, at Stephens Memorial Hospital after a courageous battle with Covid.

He was born in Rumford, Maine, the son of Harry and Florence (Verrill) Benson of South Woodstock. He graduated from Woodstock High School and was drafted into the United States Army, where he served with the 5th Infantry Division in Fort Carson, Colo.

He returned home to Maine where he worked many jobs including his family farm, road commissioner for the Town of Woodstock, Marcel Paper Company, and Chadbourne Tree Farm as a self-employed logger. He also took time away to fight forest fires in Michigan, but his most important job was raising his family.

Roger was an active hunter and fisherman. He loved to go camping with his family and friends. He enjoyed coaching baseball for the Bryant Pond town teams which both his sons played on. He was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan. He enjoyed gambling at the Oxford Casino.

He is survived by his children Dean and wife Patricia of Dixfield, Devin and wife Bethany of Woodstock. Laureen and husband Chris Bean of Milton Twp, 6 Grandchildren Will and Audra Bean, Samuel and Boyd, Brianna and Morgan Benson. His longtime partner Rita Evans, his brother Ricky, and many close friends who enjoyed Rogers words of wisdom mixed with a bit of humor.

He was predeceased by his parents, siblings Charlie, Albert, Robert, and Rosalie.
