The members of St. Margaret’s Guild, at St. Michael’s church will give a dancing party at Auburn Hall Monday, Jan. 30th. Marble’s six piece orchestra will furnish music. Mrs. Walter Emerson is chairman, assisted Mrs. John H. Crowley, Jr., Mrs. Philip Crowell, and Mrs. Ralph Cobb.

50 Years Ago: 1972

Members of the High School Building Committee visited the construction site of the new Lewiston Comprehensive High School Thursday afternoon. It was reported the construction was ahead of schedule. William Rocheleau is chairman of the committee which will meet every three months

25 Years Ago: 1997

The Bates Mill redevelopment effort got a boost Tuesday when Congressman John Baldacci’s office announced the city had received a $200,000 grant for renovations to accommodate new business. The US. The Department of Agriculture grant is to be used to renovate 200,000 square feet for small businesses and a 1.2 million square-foot complex. These resources will provide the kind of support that many emerging businesses need to succeed, said Baldacci, who sits on the U.S. House of Representatives  Agriculture and Small Business Committee.” The grant is one of many such subsidies awarded to Lewiston since 1992, when the city took over the mill because its owner failed to pay outstanding taxes. Including both federal and local funds, the city has pumped at least $4.6 million into renovating the mill in hopes of reviving it., selling it and putting it back on the tax rolls.
