100 Years Ago: 1922

Fluffy, a handsome Maltese cat, will be cared for in Cumberland County as long as her owner, a South Portland man, remains to serve a term after being committed on a charge of unlawful possession of liquor. The man lived alone and there was no other place in which to harbor the feline.

50 Years Ago: 1972

The Future Nurses’ Club at St. Dominic’s Regional High School held a Candy Apple Sale yesterday and today. Members of the club sold their home-made caramel apples during the morning break. Proceeds from the sale of apples will be used for their annual card party. The girls in the club have many future events planned. During the Easter season they will hold an Easter party at the Sarah C. Frye home in Lewiston. The club will also hold a “sweet tooth sale’’ at St. Doms. Pastries, brownies and other goodies will be sold. Other fund-raising activities will be planned and profits made from these events will be given as scholarships to the graduating seniors of the club.

25 Years Ago: 1997

Julie V. Edwards, daughter of Robert and Brenda Carleton and Bradley and Barbara Edwards, all of Auburn, has been accepted into the Master of Arts in teaching foreign languages at the Monterey Institute of International studies in Monterey, Calif. She began classes Jan.13. Edwards graduated from Lewiston High School in 1989 and from the University of Maine in 1993 with a major in French.
