John H. Stebbins Sr.

LEWISTON – John H. Stebbins Sr., 86, of Lewiston, died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2022, at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston.

Born in Chicopee, Mass., on July 15, 1935, he was the son of Anthony and Rose Charland Stebbins. He moved to the Lewiston area as a young man and married the former Marguerite Fontaine. Mrs. Stebbins passed away on March 23, 1991.

John worked at several local companies, including a long stretch at Falcon Shoe, retiring at 65. A member of the Knights of Columbus, he also volunteered at the Multi-Purpose Center and the Lewiston Armory.

He was an avid Red Sox fan, enjoyed puzzles, the outdoors, and gardening. He was especially proud of his sunflowers. John was friendly and outgoing, and loved to socialize, whether it was talking to old friends or the guys down at Eddie’s Wheel and Deal. If you weren’t an old friend, he made you a new one.

Survivors include a daughter, Anna Stebbins, a son, Romeo Stebbins and wife Traci; and four grandchildren, John H. Stebbins III, Kelsi J. Stebbins, Kayla R. Raymond, and Phoenix Ingalls-Stebbins.

Besides his wife and parents, he was predeceased by a son, John H. Stebbins Jr.

A celebration of his life will be held at the Albert and Burpee Funeral Home on Sunday, from 5 to 8 p.m. Interment, St. Peter’s Cemetery.
