The Bridgton-Lake Region Rotary Club is awarding scholarships for high school sophomores who qualify for the three-day leadership development camp in Raymond, according to a news release from the club.

RYLA, or the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards program, is dedicated to developing the next generation of talented leaders. Rotary District 7780’s RYLA serves rising juniors from seacoast New Hampshire and southern Maine.

This three-day camp includes team building and skill development. It helps individuals increase their self-confidence, enhance leadership capabilities, and provides tools of communication. The result is an increase in self-efficacy, and the ability to enhance the communities with which one is involved.

Rotary clubs throughout the district will select up to 144 students to participate in RYLA this summer. Camp will be from June 26 to 30 and takes place at Camp Hinds in Raymond.

Zoe Bodwell, now a senior at Lesley University in Cambridge, Massachusetts, said “RYLA really helped me find my voice, especially in crowded situations. That had always been difficult for me.”

The deadline for applications is Thursday, Feb. 24.
