Matthew Scott Libby

LEWISTON – Matthew Scott Libby, 43, of Granite Ridge in New Gloucester, took his last breath on Friday, Jan. 28, 2022, at CMMC in the COVID ICU.

He was born Oct. 18, 1978, at CMMC in Lewiston to Ralph Libby Jr., and the former Susan Jordan. He grew up in Poland playing baseball, basketball and soccer. After graduating from Poland Community School, he attended Edward Little High School in Auburn, where he played football and ran indoor track. He graduated with the class of 1998.

He began his career with Hancock Lumber while still in high school and worked there in many capacities until his death. He was known for his quiet manner, work ethic, kind treatment of others and his dry sense of humor.

Matt was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed many outdoor activities. He also enjoyed watching the New England sports teams compete, especially the Red Sox.

He recently became engaged to Jenny Freeman and together they have a 4-month-old son, Alexander.

Besides his parents, and Jenny and Alex, he is survived by his brother, Sam of Sarasota, Fla.; his maternal grandmother, Charlene Jordan of Auburn; many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews; his best friends Peter Allen of Oxford, Bo Norton of North Carolina, and Ron Pratt of Gray.

He was predeceased by his sister, Amanda.

He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

A Celebration of Life/Benefit will be held Sunday, Feb. 27, at 1 p.m., at the Silver Spur in Mechanic Falls. A private memorial service/burial will take place at Pine Grove Cemetery in Poland in the spring.
