HealthReach Community Health Centers, a network of 12 federally qualified health centers in central and western Maine, has hired K.J. Johnson as a health care connector.

Johnson joins staff at three HealthReach practices in Franklin County: Mt. Abram Regional Health Center in Kingfield, Rangeley Family Medicine and Strong Area Health Center.

HealthReach connectors provide free assistance to clients navigating the high cost of health care, including to those who utilize the state and federal affordable health care programs, MaineCare and Medicare, as well as those without insurance, according to its website. In addition to Johnson, HealthReach employs four other connectors.

Johnson received her bachelor’s degree in communication and philosophy from Alverno College in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and is working on her master’s degree in peace and reconciliation from the University of Maine.

Prior to joining HealthReach, she worked in inclusive care and nicotine recovery support and in 2020, she served in the AmeriCorps VISTA program at Greater Portland Health.
