The Lewiston/Auburn Optimist Club is sponsoring an essay contest open to all qualified students.

“How does an Optimistic Mindset Change My Tomorrow?” is this year’s contest topic.

Any youth is eligible who is younger than 19 as of Oct. 1, 2021, and lives in the United States, Canada or the Caribbean. There is no minimum age, according to a news release from the club.

The essay contest is sponsored by Optimist International to give young people the opportunity to write about their own opinions regarding the world in which they live. The approach can encompass a young person’s personal experience, the experience of their country or a more historical perspective.

In additional to developing skills for written expression, participants also have the opportunity to win a college scholarship.

The winner of the New England, New York District contest will be awarded a $2,500 scholarship. Applicants can get more information online at optimist.org, or can contact any member of the local Optimist Club.

Maine residents can call 207-783-5269 or email gwmathews91@gmail.com for additional information.
