100 Years Ago: 1922

A stalled automobile at the corner of Shepley Street and Gamage Avenue, Monday afternoon created a little excitement among the youngsters of that locality. Everyone but the driver seemed to enjoy the frantic efforts of his sputtering engine.

50 Years Ago: 1972

“A happy surprised Louise Berube was crowned as queen to reign over the events of the St. Louis Booster Water Carnival now in progress. Blonde, petite, Louise is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clem Berube, of Eighth St. Auburn, and she received her crown from Joline Francoeur, last year’s queen, during a special program Friday evening at St. Louis Parish Hall. Miss Linda Pontbriand was voted Miss Congeniality and all of the contestants looked very lovely in floor length gowns. Each of the girls were introduced and questioned by Ray Vallerand, who was master of ceremonies for the occasion, were also presented with a bouquet of red carnations and a gift of money. as well as receiving a silver bowl.

25 Years Ago: 1997

In addition to its regularly scheduled weekend Jingle Bell sleigh rides, the Norlands Living History Center has scheduled a Sleigh Rally to be held Sunday, Feb. 23, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Anyone who has a horse and sleigh is welcome to come and enjoy the Norlands’ trails through fields and woods and to participate in the 1 p.m. sleigh parade, according to Billie Gammon, Interim Director. Leading the parade will be the big old, restored snow roller. Both the public and the participants will be given free admission and free parking. Hot food and drink will be available at the farm and sleigh rides will be offered all day for a dollar per person.
