Robert “Bob” A. Bowyer

GREENE – Robert “Bob” A. Bowyer, 87, passed away at Androscoggin Hospice House on Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2022.Bob was born in Quincy, Massachusetts on June 7, 1934, the son of William and Leona (Gilman) Bowyer. He graduated from Quincy High School in 1952 and received his AB Government degree in 1956 from Harvard University. He taught school in Grosse Point, Michigan until he was drafted and served in the U.S. Army from 1957-1959. He obtained his master’s degree in City Planning from Harvard Graduate School of Design in 1964.Bob was planning director of Cambridge and Lexington, Massachusetts. Then served for 10 years on the City of Auburn Planning Board. He also taught three courses at the Lewiston-Auburn Senior College.Bob married the former Dorothy A. Wilkinson on Sept. 8, 1962 and was blessed with two children, Susan and Scott. Robert thoroughly enjoyed watching sports, especially the Red Sox, Patriots, Celtics, and Bruins. He coached his grandson’s basketball team, and enjoyed spending summers at the family cottage in Oxford, Maine.Bob is survived by his wife Dorothy, daughter Susan and her partner Anthony D’Andrea, his two grandsons, Zachary Farnum, and Matthew Farnum and his partner Emily Mills.He is predeceased by his parents, his brother William, his son Scott, and his sister-in-law Marilyn Wilkinson.Burial will be private in the spring.
