As I sat on the computer Feb. 9 at 10:30 a.m., what did I hear on the scanner? Yes, another car versus pedestrian on Blake Street in Lewiston.
This happens way too much and too often in our city. I realize that a pedestrian has the right of way in a crosswalk — if this is the case in what I just heard on the scanner (I am now retired) — but the first thing I was taught when I was growing up is to look both ways before crossing the street.
I was simply told that a person doesn’t stand much of a chance against a 3,500-pound car.
Another thing I have noticed way too much lately is drivers not using blinkers. I wonder what is so hard about using one’s signal to turn. This also may have factored into the accident that occurred Feb. 9.
On the lighter side, those who must continue to cross without looking should move to Auburn, because every light — no matter which way you’re coming from or going to — is always red.
