OXFORD — Selectmen voted unanimously Thursday night to continue holding the annual town meeting on a Saturday, supporting the majority of those responding to a survey about possibly switching to a weeknight.

The meeting is set for 10 a.m. June 4 at Oxford Elementary School on Pleasant Street.

Town Manager Adam Garland said of the 14 people who returned surveys, the majority favored Saturday.

Selectmen have been looking for ways to attract a larger turnout and asked Town Clerk Elizabeth Olsen to get estimates on mailing the annual town report to all residences.

In another issue, Ron Smith of RHR Smith and Co. presented a summary of the 2021 audit, saying the town is in good financial shape. He suggested the wastewater treatment plant does not have an adequate reserve to cover maintenance and upgrades in the future. He said administrators should take a hard look at sewer rates.

In his report, Garland included a draft of a request for proposals for property revaluation services. It calls for the work to be done by August 2023. The last revaluation was in 2009.

Selectmen authorized him to solicit bids.

Garland listed four ordinance changes to be included in the town meeting warrant. They include:

• Adjusting the mixed use zoning in the Welchville area to be consistent with surrounding sites.

• Clarifying language in the sewer use ordinance.

• Clarifying language in the marijuana licensing ordinance.

• Strengthening enforcement of the property maintenance ordinance, which selectmen agreed should be reviewed by the town attorney.

In other business, the board approved selling a 2006 Ford F-150 pickup truck to RKH Auto Sales on Whittemore Road in Oxford for its bid of $400.

The board also accepted a $1,000 donation from the Oxford Seventh-day Adventist Church on Fore Street for the Police Department’s DARE program.
