Leo P. Arsenault
RUMFORD – Leo P. Arsenault, 94, of Rumford, passed away Thursday Jan. 20, 2022, at Montello Heights in Lewiston after a period of declining health.
He was born Sept. 5, 1927, in Rumford, the son of Rene and Alice (Gallant) Arsenault.
Leo was proud to serve his country as a Corporal in the U.S. Marine Corps during WWII and the Korean War.
He married Mary “Midge” Ferland Dec. 29, 1952; they were married for almost 43 years until her passing Nov. 23, 1995. He was an honor student at Thomas Business College graduating in 1953.
Leo worked as an accountant for the Ethyl and the Boise Cascade Corporations. until his retirement in 1988.
He was a communicant of The Parish of the Holy Savior and a choir member. He was a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed volunteering at their breakfasts, suppers, blood drives and Tootsie Roll drives. He was a volunteer with the GRAMPS food program. He was also a 61-year member of the American Legion.
An avid fan of sports, many of Leo’s proudest moments were sitting on the sidelines or in the bleachers cheering on his grandchildren in their many sporting events. He was also a big supporter for the U.S. Special Olympics. (Thank you Pepere’)
Leo is survived by two sons, Kevin Arsenault and his wife Laurie, and Jeffrey and his wife Shirley, two daughters, Anne Bernier and Lisa Burns and her husband Arthur; a brother, Robert Arsenault; grandchildren Travis Arsenault, Dustin Arsenault, Stephanie Bernier Ferguson, Isaac Bernier, Zachary Bernier, Linda Muise, Jared Arsenault, Andrew Arsenault, Collin Burns, and Abigail Burns; great-grandchildren Nickolaus Arsenault, Austin Arsenault, and Caleb Arsenault, Christina Kirk, Morgan Kirk, Jayden Ferguson, Micah Ferguson, Gabriel Ferguson, Elliot Ferguson, and Karianna Bernier; several nieces and nephews.
Leo was predeceased by his wife; brothers Denys, Raymond, George, Rene, Charles, and Eugene Arsenault, sisters Beatrice Arsenault, Marie Alice Reynolds, Irene Prue, infant Evangeline Arsenault, Evangeline Roy, and Theresa Arsenault.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Montello Heights for their care, compassion, and kind words during Dad’s stay and especially the last few weeks of his life. Also, we’d like to thank Androscoggin Home Health Hospice for thoughtfully answering all questions, their support, guidance, and care. We are eternally grateful.
Visitation will be 3-6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 25 at the S.G. Thibault Funeral Home, 250 Penobscot St., Rumford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday Feb. 26 at St. John’s Parish of the Holy Savior Church, 126 Maine Avenue, Rumford.
