Rawn Phinney

SOUTH PARIS – Rawn Phinney of South Paris passed away on Thursday evening, Feb. 17, 2022, surrounded by his family.

Rawn was born July 23, 1945 at the end of World War II in Oakland, Calif. His mother, Agnes Phinney, returned to her parents home, Charles and Evelyn Phinney, 6 Paris St., Norway. Rawn grew up there and graduated in 1964 and entered the U.S. Air Force. Stationed in Michigan he met his first wife Kathleen Moehlman and had two sons, Brent and Brian.

He did his tour of duty in Vietnam and returned to Michigan. Kathleen passed shortly after. Rawn worked at Firestone as Sales Manager. He met Joyce Mayea and they married and had a daughter, Beth.

Rawn left Firestone to become an independent trucker in the Detriot, Mich. area. In 1976, Rawn and Joyce moved their family to Norway. He worked for Stephen Brown, then as a “shanty shaker” driver delivering for Burlington Mobile Homes throughout New England. Leaving Burlington Homes, Rawn and Joyce bought the Handy Store which he enjoyed for several years and then sold. His last job was the Manager of the Oxford County Recycling Center at its inception. During these years starting in 1978 he was becoming a landlord. Buying large older homes and renovating them into apartments and some commercial properties, at the height of owning 12 properties and a small mobile home park in Norway on Greenleaf Ave.

Rawn loved his family and friends, always looking to bring them together. He cared for many, always visiting and helping when he could.

He will be missed by his wife of 51 years Joyce; children Brent and his wife Sharon; Brian and his wife Sandy and daughter Beth; his grandchildren Matthew and wife Deanna, Allyson, Ashleigh, Sarah, Korbin, Emma and Kassie; great-grandchildren Addilyn, Jackson and Emrys; his dear aunt Ruth and uncle Bryant Gurney and daughter Jane; and his sister, Coleen and brother, Eric.

Following cremation a private committal service will be held in the spring with a celebration of his life in late summer.
