DEAR SUN SPOTS: I want Sun Spots readers to know that you can drop off your returnable bottles at the YWCA on East Avenue in Lewiston. Money is used for supplies. You can call the YWCA at 795-4050 or contact me at 576-0964. — Sharon, no town

ANSWER: Excellent! This is in reply to the Sun Spots request on Feb. 17 regarding pick-up of recycling cans and bottles to benefit nonprofits. Please keep the ideas coming in. It’s so easy to help out nonprofits in this way and I’m happy to share the information.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I am writing on behalf of my daughter, 6-year-old Liliana. She has done a number of projects to help the homeless children in Oxford County.

Today we are seeking help to make Easter baskets to deliver to the homeless shelters. Specifically, we are looking for candy and new Easter baskets. We have had help from Sun Spots readers in the past so if anyone would like to help us out this time, please contact me.

Furthermore, in response to No Name in Lewiston, I would be happy to make arrangements to pick up those empty bottles and cans for my daughter’s non-profit, From Lil with Love. You can reach us at 577-6234 or at LauraJMcCann@hotmail.com.

ANSWER: I hope you get a great response to both your requests so you can help lots of people.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: There’s a lot of talk about selling your old electronics, but how do you “clean out” all the old information that’s on your cell phone or computer? — No name, no town

ANSWER: The technique varies depending on what kind of equipment you have and how old it is. The best thing to do is contact a local computer tech or to look up instructions on line for your particular device. Some local libraries have a tech person on staff who can help you with this task too.

In the Rolodex, I have Angela Carter in Greene (https://angelascms.com/, J.Angela.Carter@angelacms.com , 520-9573; ACS—Action Computer Services in Lewiston (https://www.acs4u.com/, 786-8740. And Buck Buchanan at PCS—Professional Computer Services (http://pro-pc.us/,Buck@pro-pc.us, 784-6295).

DEAR SUN SPOTS: In answer to Mary looking for a recipe for molasses cookies and another for doughnuts (Feb. 17 Sun Spots), family and friends have always liked these. The recipes have been in the family for over 100 years!

Favorite Molasses Cookies: Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a large bowl, stir together 1 cup molasses, 1 cup sugar, 1 cup shortening, 1 egg, and 1/2 cup cold water.

In a separate bowl, sift together 5 cups flour, and 1/2 teaspoon each ginger,  cinnamon, and ground cloves, and 2 teaspoons baking soda.

Stir into wet ingredients then roll out on floured surface and cut with a cookie cutter. You can also roll the dough into balls and press with a fork.

Doughnuts: In a large bowl, stir together 1 cup sugar, 1 cup sour milk, 1 tablespoon butter, and 2 eggs. Sift in 3 cups flour 3 teaspoons baking powder, 1/2 teaspoon each baking soda and salt, 1 teaspoon nutmeg, and 1/4 teaspoon ginger.

Roll out on floured surface and cut with a doughnut cutter. Fry in hot oil, turning frequently.

ANSWER: These recipes sound great! Thanks for sharing them.
