Wendy Valerie Morin
LEWISTON – Wendy Valerie Morin, 84, of Lewiston, passed away peacefully at home with loving family by her side on Feb. 18 2022, on her dear father George’s heavenly birthday.
Wendy “Mum” was born on Feb. 14, 1938 in Enfield, England, the second child to George and Miriam (Wiseman) Regler. Wendy grew playing sports and getting into mischief. Mum was loyal to family life growing up in England and took great care of her brothers. She attended The Suffolk School and completed school at the age of 16.
On a blind date, she met her American husband, Robert “Bob” Morin while he was in the army stationed in Bishops Stortford England. The two became inseparable and on Dec. 28, 1957 they were married at St. Mary’s church, Ponders End.
After moving to Germany to complete Bob’s duty, Wendy entered the United States in 1958. The city of Lewiston became her treasured home for the remainder of her life. They enjoyed each other in marriage for 45 years until Bob’s passing in 2003.
Wendy became certified as a nurse’s aid and enjoyed her work at St. Mary’s hospital, making new friends. Mum had part-time jobs to “keep her busy”. She loved working at the CMYC ice rink, Hudson Bus Lines, Elizabeth Ann’s, Landry’s Quick-Stop and The Birches Campground.
When Mum wasn’t working, she was all about sports. Wednesday mornings were bowling league. There were several trips to town driving kids to sport venues from football to soccer, basketball, cheering and hockey. She was a tried and true “Hockey Mum”. Wendy was instrumental in starting the first girl’s Broomball league eventually becoming female ice hockey in Lewiston. She also coached field hockey at Lewiston High School, exciting memories she shared with daughter, Debbie and friends. Nana was the number one fan for her grandchildren’s sporting events always on the sidelines no matter the sport. She lived for the next big event. It kept her young.
Mum could tell an incredible story and made the best cup of tea. She was able to capture both hilarity and humanity throughout, bringing each word to life. Mum could transport an entire room of people back to a moment in time. While sipping tea, many competitive card games took place with her children and grandchildren. Her fiery spirit and lucky number 21 led her winning streaks with slot machines and scratch tickets. Because of her love for winning, the New England Patriots became her passion. However, the New England Patriots was only Tom Brady.
Wendy knew she had won the lottery with her beautiful family. She shared many countless summer days at No Name Pond and made fond memories at The Birches Campground with Bob in later years. Mum had fun friends every season of her life. She was an extremely passionate, brave, kind-hearted woman who went to the ends of the Earth for those she loved.
Wendy remained close with her family in England and visited often with children and grandchildren. Mum was proud of her English roots and shared her passion often.
She will be lovingly remembered by her brothers Rodney and Ian Regler of England, brothers-in-law Maurice and Leo Morin of Lewiston. She leaves behind her children Michael and wife Pam (Remieres) Morin of Lewiston, Gary and wife Monique Morin of Lewiston, Danny and wife Amy of Leicester, N.Y., and her loving daughter Debra Morin-Ouellette and husband Daniel Ouellette of Poland Spring. She is also survived by her grandchildren Lea, Dylan, Shae, Griffin, Chloe, Samuel, Kelci, Kara, Danielle, Nicole, Steven, Olivia; and numerous nieces and nephews from both America and England. Mum’s great-grandchildren include Brady, Camden, Evelyn, and Kepler.
Wendy was predeceased by her parents; her husband; brother, Kenneth Regler of England; grandson, Seth Morin; sisters-in-law Venise and Carmen Morin of Lewiston, and Kathleen and Jane Regler of England.
