Six wrestlers from area schools punched their tickets to next weekend’s New England Championships after finishing in the top three of their respective weight classes at Saturday’s New England Qualifier at Morse High School in Bath.
Oxford Hills qualified three wrestlers to New Englands, led by Dillon Worster’s championship in the 195-pound bracket on Saturday. Eitan Afriat was second at 170 pounds and Rocco Hayden third at 145 pounds.
A pair of wrestlers from Windham/Gray-New Gloucester/Westbrook made the cut, including 113-pound champion Ayden Cofone, who was named most outstanding wrestler of the meet. Teammate Owen McDuffie also qualified after finishing third at 152 pounds.
Mountain Valley’s Lucas Libby was the runner-up at 152 pounds and also qualified for New Englands, which will be hosted by Providence Career and Technical Academy in Providence, Rhode Island.
