The local Shop n Save in Farmington put 34 Academy Hill fourth-graders to work Thursday. The Wilton students got a taste of what it’s like to have a “real job,” by working at the check-out, bakery, deli and even the meat department. The students seemed to be everywhere in the store, looking like miniature versions of real employees. All were wearing their best clothes for their workday, with a store-labeled apron, hat and a name tag. “Most often, the students were actually doing the work, while the employees watched over the kids’ shoulders. All of the students remarked, ‘It’s fun when asked how they liked the job and all were very serious in their work. Through the morning, fourth-grade teacher Debbie Lerette walked around the store, keeping her eye on her students and smiling. “It’s the best day of the year. It’s fun to watch the students transform into little business people,” she said.
