IRAM — The driver of a pickup truck escaped injury after it burst into flames after crossing the centerline and struck an oil delivery truck head-on Thursday morning on Routes 5 and 113.

A juvenile from Parsonsfield, whose name is not being released by authorities, was traveling north in a 2008 GMC pickup truck when it crossed into the opposite lane and struck a Downeast Energy truck filled with 2,800 gallons of fuel oil and driven by Arthur Woods, 59, of Fryeburg, Chief Deputy James Urquhart of the Oxford County Sheriff’s Office said.

The accident was reported about 7:08 a.m. near 1375 Pequawket Trail, which is Routes 5 and 113.

Urquhart the pickup stopped in the northbound lane and burst into flames. The driver escaped with no injuries.

The oil truck went down an embankment. Woods suffered a leg injury, Urquhart said.

Both drivers were checked by Sacopee Rescue Unit personnel at the scene and released.

An investigation by the Oxford County Sheriff’s Office and a trooper from the Maine State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit is ongoing. Slippery road conditions are considered a factor in the crash, Urquhart said.

Fire Departments from Hiram, Baldwin and Brownfield, along with Sacopee Rescue, Maine Department of Transportation and Maine Department of Environmental Protection assisted at the scene.

Pequawket Trail, between Douglas Hill Road in Baldwin and Route 117 in Hiram, was reopened to traffic  about 1 p.m. after the DEP cleaned up diesel fuel.
