The Rev. Allen Ewing-Merrill is scheduled to be Lewiston/Auburn Senior College’s next Food For Thought speaker, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Friday, March 11, via Zoom.

Ewing-Merrill serves as executive director of The BTS Center in Portland which seeks to catalyze spiritual imagination, with enduring wisdom, for transformative faith leadership, according to a news release from the college.

Originally from midcoast Maine, Ewing-Merrill is a graduate of the University of Maine and of Boston University School of Theology, and he is continuing his studies in a Doctor of Ministry program through Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, D.C.

He has served as a pastor for more than 20 years, and has extended his work to include experience in advocacy, direct action, and faith-based organizing around issues of social justice. A favorite quotation he often uses comes from environmentalist Gus Speth: “The top environmental problems are selfishness, greed, and apathy.”

Ewing-Merrill will talk about the spiritual roots of the climate crisis and the work The BTS Center is doing to advance a spiritual response.

To attend this free presentation and discussion, email laseniorcollege@gmail.com by noon Thursday, March 10, and include their name and the name of the registered program.
