Joyce Vallerand

LEWISTON – Joyce Vallerand, 87, passed away peacefully on Sunday Feb. 27, 2022 with her family by her side at Russell Park Rehab Center. She suffered from Alzheimer’s. She was born on Jan. 9, 1935; one of seven children, to Armand and Esther Tikkanen in Lake Linden, Mich.

She met Roland Bibeau while he was stationed in Michigan with the United States Air Force. They married on April 3, 1954, and she was a proud and loving military wife. Seven months after they wed, the couple moved to his hometown of Lewiston. He passed away in December of 1987.

As her family grew, she worked as an Administrative Assistant at North Country Associates for many years, as well as a dedicated, Administrative Assistant for Lewiston Adult Education.

Joyce married Ray Vallerand on May 19, 2000, and they enjoyed five, golden years together until he passed away in 2005.

Later in life, she traveled to Florida and worked at The Gasparilla Inn as a Room Service Attendant. Working two jobs, well into her 70s, was the norm as she enjoyed being busy and meeting people.

She was a member of Sacred Heart Church and she had a passion for line dancing and making new friends in the process. Spending time with family was her greatest joy and she was a kind, caring, and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Joyce was survived by her children, Joanne Blouin of Lewiston and Ron Bibeau and his wife Julie of South Portland; five grandchildren, Randy, Ricky, Jenny, Jessica and Michelle; eight great-grandchildren; five siblings, Shirley, Barbara, Ruth, Russ and Roger.

She was predeceased by her husbands, Roland Bibeau and Ray Vallerand, as well as her brother Ken Tikkanen and his wife Dorothy.

A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Joyce’s life will be celebrated 11 a.m. Tuesday March 8 at Sacred Heart Church in Auburn.

Visitation Monday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Pinette Dillingham & Lynch Funeral Home. Burial will be held later in the spring at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Lewiston.
