The Lewiston City Council will review a plan to provide more parking around the public library by shortening the time on nearby meters and offering a free hour in the public lot and garage. The request by library officials comes on the heels of a major multi-million dollar library expansion, which is expected to boost use from 500 patrons daily to 800 by the end of the year. Library officials initially requested meters on Pine Street between Lisbon and Park streets be removed entirely. But city officials are recommending against it, saying parking enforcement is more difficult without meters.
