PARIS — A Maple Street resident returned home from running errands and was greeted by barreling smoke when she opened the door. Fire departments from Norway, West Paris and Oxford responded to provide assistance fighting the fire, according to Paris Fire Chief Mark Blacquiere.

“We had to put a vent hole to get the smoke out of the building so we could go in and see what was going on,” said Blacquiere. “We extinguished the fire and we’re waiting for the fire marshal’s office to get here.”

The call reporting the fire came in at 13:59 and the blaze was put out within an hour.

Stacey Boulier is the only tenant of the apartment, located at 1A Maple Street in South Paris. She has lived there for about two years, according to neighbors.

The Red Cross was also called in to provide Boulier with assistance.

As of Monday morning, the state fire marshal had not determined the cause of the fire.
