Cable provider Charter Communications is doubling the base-level speed of its Spectrum internet service from 100 megabits per second to 200 Mbps in Greater Portland, the company said Wednesday.
The faster speeds are available now to new Spectrum internet customers in Portland and its suburbs, and the company will automatically increase speeds for current residential customers in the coming weeks, it said. Nearly 95 percent of the company’s 41-state service area now features starting speeds of 200 Mbps.
“Beginning today, we are doubling starting speeds for millions of customers, providing even more speed for streaming, remote work, and staying connected with family and friends – with no modem fees, data caps or contracts,” said Carl Leuschner, senior vice president of internet and voice products at Charter.
Based in Stamford, Connecticut, Charter is the country’s third-largest cable TV provider, with roughly 26 million customers.
