Recently, Bruce Poliquin — the former member of Congress representing our second district — claimed U.S. Rep. Jared Golden “voted” a bill that would end U.S. consumption of Russian oil.
Sounds important — except there was no such “vote.” The bill he references has not come to the House floor and has yet to be considered by the appropriate committee in Congress.
One would think Mr. Poliquin would know this after serving in Congress for four years.
What Golden did vote for was a bill that would provide needed health benefits for veterans who suffer due to exposure to toxic chemicals. What is really sad is that Mr. Poliquin has attempted to fundraise of this falsehood.
Congressman Golden has made it very clear he wants to cut of Russian oil. And he has explicitly stated, he wants to increase oil and gas productions during this time of the Ukrainian crisis.
Golden wants to do the right thing. Poliquin wants to use an unrelated vote to fundraise.
As thoughts turn more and more to the Russian atrocities in Ukraine, some still wish to play politics in the face of an ongoing international crisis. Poliquin and others should be ashamed for fundraising with misinformation. But, alas, I am not surprised.
