LEWISTON — SeniorsPlus, the designated Area Agency on Aging serving Androscoggin, Franklin, and Oxford counties, will be offering a Music & Memory program for adults who have Alzheimer’s Disease or other related dementia and their caregivers.  Music & Memory sessions will be presented one-on-one with caregivers and clients in their homes starting in April. The program is free and open to the public. Call 207 440-2340 or [email protected] for more information and to schedule an appointment.

Music & Memory is an exciting, internationally-recognized, evidence-informed program targeting individuals aging in place at home and their caregivers. A growing body of research proves how personalized playlists, presented in the context of Music & Memory, changes lives for the better. Music has been found to stimulate parts of the brain, and studies have demonstrated that music enhances the memory of Alzheimer’s and dementia patients. Research has shown that favorite songs provide respite, ease transitions, and reduce caregiver stress.

The program is presented in partnership with Eastern Area Agency on Aging, which will offer Music & Memory in Penobscot, Piscataquis, Hancock, and Washington counties. It is funded through the Administration for Community Living.
