Who was the only 20th century American president without a college degree? How much does a human eye weigh? These were only a few of the many general knowledge questions posed to Mountain Valley High School students on Thursday when classes faced off against each other during the Game of Knowledge. The trivia game was but one of a half-dozen after-school activities teens took part in during the annual Winter Carnival week. More than 100 seniors, juniors, sophomores and freshmen pitted their skills against each other in floor hockey, snowshoeing, soccer. and other physical and academic competitions. The traditional event will culminate on March 22 when the Spring Fling semi-formal dance will be held, said Deborah Carver, one of eight teachers helping to coordinate the Winter Carnival. “The carnival gives kids a chance to do some fun activities. Winter can be long,” said Carver, a social studies teacher. The event also comes at a “down” time for athletics, she said. Winter interscholastic sports have ended and spring sports have yet to begin. Classes who win any of the carnal events don’t win prizes, said Carver. But they got to have “bragging rights’ she said. The senior class took first honors in the Game of Knowledge, the soccer tournament, and the snowshoe race. Freshman won the three legged race, and the junior class defeated the competition In the floor hockey tournament.  Answers to the above questions: President Harry S. Truman and 1-1/2 ounces
