100 Years Ago: 1922

The East Auburn Benevolent Branch held an all day meeting at Central Maine General Hospital. Six members were present. The day was spent sewing for the hospital. A box luncheon was served at noon with coffee furnished by the hospital. Five dollars was voted to be given to the East Auburn School to purchase a Victrola.

50 Years Ago: 1972

A colorful St. Patricks’ Day party was held Wednesday evening at the Blake Street Towers with a special program of entertainment and prizes for many. Homemade goodies like cakes, cookies, brownies and ice cream were served to accompany the box lunches. The Barbershop Chorus presented several selections. Billy Carbonnenu played the guitar and sang Irish songs and Dolores Carbonneau danced an Irish jig. Serving as waitresses were Kathy and Elaine Ricker, Karen O’Connell, Elaine Adams, Jayne Goff, Sue Boutin, and Linda Fredrico who also entertained with songs. Joseph Ouelleette, Joseph Bard and Philip St. Louis served coffee. Party chairman was Mrs. Annette Burpee and her committee included Mrs. Leo Saucier, Mrs. Anthony Guay and Mrs. Margaret Clark.

25 Years Ago: 1997

Scott Tiner of Auburn recently captured his third Knights of Columbus State Free Throw Championship. Tiner, who won the State Boys 11- and 12-years titles in the past two years captured the Boys 13-year crown last weekend in Old Town. He swished 22 out of 25 foul shots to claim the title. The Auburn lad had to first win at the local and regional level before advancing to the state level. Tiner, the son of Auburn Police Lieutenant and Mrs. Toby Tiner, is an active athlete and recently competed in the Auburn Middle School hoop team and with the Biddy Basketball League at the Auburn-Lewiston YMCA. He is also a player in the Auburn Suburban Little League.
