“The country roads are in better condition than those in the city,” says a West Auburn man who went to the city the other day. This man’s sleigh was upset on Gamage Avenue by slewing into a bad rut.
50 Years Ago: 1972
A raw late winter afternoon this week found about 25 downy yellow chicks in a shop window, snuggled up three deep around a mayonnaise jar in which burned a lighted bulb. Comfort at all costs was the word of the day. They are unfortunately an unhappy sign of approaching Easter. The baby birds have with all things a special appeal that can’t be denied, but what a sad end they reach when they become “pets” for a day–or–two–or three of the child of uncaring or unimaginative parents.
25 Years Ago: 1997
The Central Maine Medical Center board of trustees recently honored Paul R. Dionne, who stepped down after serving four years as chairman of the board. Dionne will remain a member of the board and will be replaced as chairman by Robert E. Quinton. A long-time member of the CMMC board and Central Maine Healthcare Corp. board of directors, Quinton is a past CMMC board president. Dionne was named to the CMMC board in 1989 and served as vice chairman for two years before assuming the chairmanship in 1992.
