WEST PARIS — April, unlike March’s often still-state of bleakness, brings the true signs of spring: emerging plant life and animal life. The tender spring green can be seen popping through the snow, and the deer coming out of their winter yards bring a joy that is found in a few ways and places. Attending worship services can be one of those joys. All are welcome to join in at the First Universalist Church of West Paris on Sundays at 9 a.m. Wearing a mask during worship services is now optional if one has received covid19 vaccinations, and coffee hour has resumed immediately following the service.

April 3, “Joy – Finding It and Sharing It” led by guest speaker, Michael Miclon, well-known professional comedic entertainer, who will discuss the topic of finding joy and sharing joy with others in a world that sometimes seems to lack this vital emotion. Michael will share how he has discovered a way to create joy in his own life and how he has worked to spread it to others on and off the stage.

April 10, “When We Wish Upon a Star” led by frequent guest speaker, Maryli Tiemann. The nature of prayer is multifaceted and can be just a step beyond realistic for some of us. Still, in times of invasion, destruction, and aggression such as Ukraine is experiencing, we often hear among us prayers for peace, wishes for sanity to prevail. Maryli will join us with a chance to re-visit the familiar and explore the dusty corners and crevices of prayer.

April 17, “Rolling Away the Stone” led by The Reverend Fayre Stephenson. Sara Moores Campbell writes, “In the tomb of the soul, we take refuge from the world and its heaviness…. Grateful for the darkness that has nourished us, we push away the stone and invite the light to awaken us to the possibilities within us and among us.” On this Easter Sunday, we will seek possibilities for new life in ourselves and in our world.

April 24, “The Sermon on the Mount” led by The Reverend Fayre Stephenson. Webster’s defines stewardship as “the conducting, supervising, or managing of something; especially: the careful and responsible management of something entrusted to one’s care.” This service will focus on a consideration of our stewardship of our spiritual community and the sacred spaces entrusted to our care.
