The Webber Avenue trolley was making hard work of getting along thru the snow early Saturday morning. This car makes its circuit on this loop only once every half hour and so has more to battle thru each trip than other local cars.
50 Years Ago: 1972
Major league baseball players went on strike today. jeopardizing the scheduled opening of the 1972 season Wednesday. The unprecedented action was taken by the Major League Baseball Players Association in Dallas on Friday. The players’ representatives of the 24 big-league teams voted 47-0. with one abstention, to take strike action beginning with today’s 12 scheduled exhibition games.
25 Years Ago: 1997
Maine mystery writers will share secrets with the public to help raise funds for the Central Maine Technical Center library. “Sisters in Crime” panelists and Maine mystery writers Kate Flora, Kathy Lynn Emerson and James Moore will appear at CMTC April 18 at 7:30 p.m. The discussion will be followed by a reception, refreshments and a signing. Tickets are $5 for adults, $4 for seniors and $3 for students and may be purchased in advance through the CMTC Library,.at the door or by mail from CMTC. 1260 Turner St., Auburn, ME 04210. Tickets purchased by mail will be at the door. Proceeds will benefit the CMTC Library. The panelists are published mystery writers from Maine. Flora is the author of “Chosen for Death,” “Death in a Funhouse Mirror” and “Death at the Wheel.” Emerson is the author of “Face Down in the Marrow-Bone Pie,” and James Moore is author of “Official Secrets,” and “Very Special Agents.”
