PARIS — On March 22, the Norway Fire Department lost a lifetime member. Shawn was only 44 years old and passed away far too early due to ongoing medical issues.
Shawn was a treasured member of the auxiliary and was always there to support and encourage all firefighters, no matter what department they were from. He would participate in any fire department activity or community event. Shawn was a 1997 graduate of OHHS and has remained in the area with his family.
At its monthly meeting, a motion was passed to establish a scholarship in memory of Shawn Knowlan. This scholarship will be given to an Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School senior who is pursuing a career in public service or enlisting in the service (i.e. Police, Fire, EMS, Army, Marines, etc.).
The amount of the scholarship is currently $250; however, the Paris Fire Department would like to challenge surrounding departments to match this amount. Who’s willing to accept this challenge?
Any questions, or if you’d like to make a donation to the Shawn Knowlan scholarship, please contact Chief Mark Blaquiere at 743-6832.
The scholarship will be presented to the OHCHS senior during Class Night.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
