Gerald T. Higgins Jr.

NORWAY – Gerald T. Higgins Jr., of Norway, passed away unexpectedly on April 3, 2022 at Maine Medical Center in Portland, at the the age of 75.

“Jerry” was born in Lewiston to Gerald T. Higgins Sr. and Ruth Louise (Ford) Higgins. He was the beloved partner for 32 years to Dawn L. Wilson. He had one son, Michael “Scott” Higgins of North Haven.

He is survived by his sister, Janet Nolan of Yarmouth and predeceased by his sister, Pamela Healy.

Jerry served in the U.S. Army, 1968-1971. He was a welder/fabricator for most of his life at NEWFAB Inc. in Auburn and McCann Fabrication in New Gloucester. For the past three years he has worked for the Town of Norway with their mill foil program during summers at the boat launch on Norway Lake.

Some of his interests included racing, football, high school basketball, gardening, hunting and fishing. He drove a race car at Oxford Plains in the charger division during the early 1970s. He’d been a member of Waterford Fair Assoc. and Norway Trackers Snowmobile Club.

Jerry was kind, compassionate and caring. Jerry raised three more children after his own was grown, Jason McLaughlin, Hunter Wilson and Hope Wilson. They respected, loved and worshipped him.

He had two stepdaughters, Melissa Wilson and Jacquelyn Wilson, one stepson, Jason McLaughlin; grandchildren included Hunter Wilson, Hope Wilson, Hallie Wheeler, Jared Billings, Katelyn Billings, Dylan Henderson, Keegan McLaughlin and Kimberley McLaughlin; great-granddaughters Saige Billings and Raelan Henderson. Jerry had two buddies that he considered brothers, Eric Tielinen and David Stone.

He loved his family, the holiday gatherings and was known to play the slots at the casino now and again.
