It’s bad enough that Maine people are among the highest taxed and lowest paid in America. Now inflation is destroying what little Mainers can save and eroding the value of incoming paychecks.

Politicians offer plenty of excuses for rising prices, but few are willing to admit the driving cause because so many have their hands in the cookie jar.

Nearly 30% of all dollars in circulation today were created from thin air over the last two years. This has obvious consequences, but the Biden Administration would rather blame Russia than stop the printing presses — demanding trillions more in funny money for special interest handouts.

It must be asked: when a new dollar is printed, where does its value come from? It’s siphoned right from the retirement accounts of Maine people.

Sadly, this is not a new story. From Rome to Germany, history shows when governments grow too reliant on easy money, economic disaster always follows.

To stop inflation, we must stop runaway government spending. We can start by cutting waste in Augusta, but that alone is not enough. States must also use their constitutional authority to hold Washington, D.C., accountable.Eric Brakey, Auburn
