ARTIST RECEPTION:
JOHN HOOPER WOODCARVINGS & GIUSEPPE RIBAUDO TEXTILES

Saturday, May 28, 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM- Rangeley Friends of the Arts Lakeside Theater
The exhibit continues through June 30th 2022

John Hooper: “I live in the middle of a wildlife protection area on the shore of Rangeley Lake, at the edge of Maine’s 100 Mile Wilderness. This gives me the opportunity to observe wildlife, up close and personal. If I haven’t seen most species of fish, mammals and birds from the comfort of camp, then I’ve seen them in the woods, fields and waters of this beautiful part of the country. I have chosen to capture the images in the medium of wood. Through sculpting and relief carving, I bring to life animals, birds and fish, often in their habitats, doing something that comes naturally.”

Giuseppe Ribaudo: Giuseppe Ribaudo (aka Giucy Giuce) grew up in Long Island, NY. First generation Sicilian-American on his dad’s side and second on his mom’s, his family lived on the bottom floor of his maternal grandparents’ house. His grandmother is a talented and prolific seamstress who taught him to sew at an early age. Though it wasn’t until he was in college that he discovered quilting. He joined Instagram shortly thereafter and quickly found himself making long distance friends in the quilting community via social media.

After having bounced around the country for about a decade he decided to move back to New York to pursue a career in textiles. Within a few months of being in NYC he was offered a marketing position at Andover Fabrics and was promoted to multimedia manager a year later. In 2018, he turned his focus to fabric design and released his first collection Quantum. In 2021 he will release his tenth collection called Nonna, an homage to his grandmother and her home where he learned to sew. Recently he relocated to Portland, Maine where he continues to design fabric and patterns and teach quilting.

2022 MOOSELOOKMEGUNTIC LANDLOCKED SALMON DERBY
Saturday, June 11, 5:00 AM to 5:00PM
and Sunday, June 12, 5:00 AM to 2:00 PM.

In 2020, RRG&SA began working with DIF&W to construct a fishing derby for the Rangeley region that was aligned with their management plan. After a lot of work, we held a very successful derby in June of 2021, aimed at harvesting smaller landlocked salmon out of Mooselookmeguntic Lake. We were very pleased with the participant response (we sold out). DIF&W was able to be present and collect a tremendous amount of data from the catch. Indications are that we achieved our goals with a very light impact on other species and lake use. For 2022, we’re going to do it again. Our goals remain the same. We will make minor tweaks based on what we learned the first time around, ideally making this easier for our participants. Please review the rules and other information on this website for more information. Let’s have fun out there! Whether you are interested in entering the Derby, becoming a sponsor or helping as a volunteer you will find all the information you’ll need right here. If you can’t find an answer here, you can email us at salmonderby@rangleyoutdoors.org.

If you are planning on entering the derby, we would suggest that you submit your entry forms ASAP. Due to the limited parking at the public boat launches on Mooselookmeguntic Lake we may have to limit the number of entrants. In 2021, the Derby filled up early and we had to close registration.

We also ask that all participants pay attention to the rules as the logistics for holding the event are and will be evolving right up until Derby weekend. Good luck to everyone!!!

A final note: In order to create an enjoyable and successful Derby for everyone involved we are asking for volunteers to assist us in many areas during this weekend event. If you are interested in volunteering for this exciting event, please contact us at salmonderby@rangleyoutdoors.org.

Over $5000 In Prizes!- $1000 cash for most Salmon caught on Saturday, $1000 cash for most Salmon caught on Sunday, $1500 cash for most total Salmon caught during the Derby, “Fish Pool” raffle tickets, Kids’ “Fish Pool” raffle tickets
