DEAR SUN SPOTS: The Hartford Heritage Society will hold its annual plant sale May 7 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the J & O Irish Museum on Main Street (Route 140) in Hartford.

All perennials are $3 each and larger plants and shrubs are $5 each. There will also be raffle items inside the museum.

While you are working in your gardens and finding extra plants that you no longer want or need, we would love to take them off your hands and add them to our sale. If you need help in digging them up, give me a call. All proceeds from any of our fundraisers go toward upkeep and restoration of the museum.

Also mark June 25 on your calendars for our yard sale at the Hartford Town Hall from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. As you are spring cleaning, if you have items that you would like to donate to our sale, please give me a call. We do have room in the barn at the museum to store your items until the sale.

I can be reached at 224-7147. Thank you for all your past generosity in helping with the restoration of the museum and with all of our fundraising projects, past and upcoming. A special thank you to Sun Spots for all you do for our communities and the way you get the word out on what is happening. — Doreen, no town

ANSWER: Every time I get a letter from a Sun Spotter announcing another community fundraising event, my heart sings a little song. It has been such a long time since we have been able to have these events which make up the fabric of each of our communities. I’m happy to do my part by helping to get the word out.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I am writing concerning an auto accident on April 2 at Hotel Road and Kittyhawk Avenue. My husband and I want to thank the man who called 911 and helped him out of the car then called our son. I also want to thank the man who took my hand and helped me out of the car as well. There may have been others who helped and we are forever grateful to you all. You are all truly angels of mercy. — Ann and Moe, Auburn

ANSWER: I’m so glad you’re OK. I was in an auto accident a few years ago and it made all the difference to have the assistance of many good Samaritans who came to my aid and I’m thankful that you had help in your time of need.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I have a problem with moles digging tunnels all over my lawn. I hope your readers can help. — Beryl, Auburn

ANSWER: Moles invade your yard to search for earthworms, grubs, and lawn insects. To help limit the moles’ food supply, use products labeled to control grubs and lawn insects.

You can use mole-specific traps and I’ve also heard that soaking mole mounds with three parts castor oil to one part Dawn works. They don’t like coffee grounds either.
