WEST PARIS — A special town meeting will be held Saturday morning to elect a new selectman and to approve the spending of American Rescue Plan Act funds.

The meeting starts at 10 a.m. at the Ring McKeen American Legion Post 151, located at 6 Church St.

After choosing a moderator, residents will vote on four articles, including the election of a new select board member to replace Jennifer Billings, who recently resigned.

Two articles deal with appropriating ARPA funds received from a federal grant to help communities recover from the pandemic. The first article asks voters to approve spending up to $68,426.52 for a S590 T4 V2 Bobcat Skid-Steer loader. Among the uses for the loader will be cleaning sidewalks in the winter and sweeping the roads in the summer. The purchase would include attachments for an angled broom, bucket, pallet fork frame and a snowblower.

A second article would award hazard pay to current town employees who worked during the pandemic between March 2020 and June 2021 for a total of $16,000.

Voters will also be asked to amend the Planning Board Ordinance to change the number needed for a quorum from four members to three. There are currently six people on the seven-member board, said Town Manager Joy Downing.
